Codex — Connect ChatGPT

Sign in to ChatGPT through the Codex CLI and use it as an engine.

In short

If you have a ChatGPT plan, you can use it through the Codex CLI. Press Connect ChatGPT, sign in in the browser, and Thesivor runs requests through Codex. The app never sees your password and never opens Codex's config folder.

1Install Codex

npm install -g @openai/codex or brew install --cask codex. Thesivor shows install help and a Re-scan button if it cannot find it.

2Connect ChatGPT

Settings → AI engines → ChatGPT (personal account) → Connect ChatGPT runs codex login, which opens the browser. A failed sign-in shows Codex's own last error line, never the auth URL.

3Pick a model

The picker uses Codex's model catalog when that version exposes it, otherwise Thesivor's own list, labelled as such.

For technical users

The connected state comes from codex login status; only the auth mode is kept, never a key. Requests go through the existing Codex CLI engine (codex exec). Verified against a fake Codex in tests; live verification is pending because Codex was not installed on the build machine. The separate in-app ChatGPT sign-in path is not available and is not offered.
