Downloads on demand
The small installer, the pinned manifest, and how downloads are verified.
In short
Nothing heavy ships in the installer. Python, the scientific packages, Tectonic, the table-detection model and the local speech model download the first time a feature needs them, and every file is checked against a pinned size and SHA-256 before it is used.
1A feature asks
Open the notebook and it offers the Python runtime; open LaTeX and it offers Tectonic. The prompt never blocks — you can keep working elsewhere.
2Watch it in the Downloads panel
The header's download icon shows a progress ring; the panel lists each segment with size, progress, speed and state, and gives you Pause, Resume, Cancel, Retry and Delete.
3Manage it in Settings → Storage
See what is installed and how much space it uses; Download everything now for offline work; Delete unused for leftovers; Import offline bundle from a .tar of hash-named artifacts.
For technical users
Downloads resume with HTTP Range, verify the server's declared size and then the bytes' size and SHA-256 before activation, and install atomically (staging directory → rename). A size or hash mismatch is refused and never retried; offline fails at once with a reason and retries when the window comes back online. Deleting a base runtime warns and names the projects that depend on it.
