Getting started
System requirements
What Thesivor needs, what it downloads, and what is untested.
In short
Thesivor runs on a desktop computer. macOS 12 or newer (Apple silicon or Intel) is the tested platform; Windows and Linux builds exist but are preview. The installer is small because Python and LaTeX download the first time you need them.
Operating system
| System | Status |
|---|---|
| macOS 12+ (Apple silicon) | Available |
| macOS 12+ (Intel) | Available |
| Windows 10/11 (64-bit) | Preview |
| Linux (x86-64, AppImage or .deb) | Preview |
What the app downloads
- Python + base packages — on first use of the notebook.
- Tectonic (LaTeX) — on first use of the LaTeX workspace.
- Table-detection model + PDF tools — on first use of Vault Vision.
- Local speech-to-text model — on first use of local voice input (not on Intel Macs).
Each download is checked against a pinned SHA-256 before it is used, and you can delete or pause it in the Downloads panel.
For technical users
The pinned manifest lists 126 artifacts across 5 platforms. The app does not bundle a Python runtime or Tectonic, and the build fails if either is found in the app tree. Disk use grows as features are used; Settings → Storage lists what is installed. There is no published minimum-RAM figure; nothing is claimed here.
