FAQ
Free, offline, data, AI use, platforms, and reviews.
In short
Short answers to the questions the documentation gets asked most.
Is it free? Yes, during preview. There is no licence statement and no announced future price. A paid engine bills you directly.
Do I need an API key? Only for model-backed steps. Reading papers, the notebook and LaTeX compile without one.
Does it work offline? The app is local-first and the notebook, reader and LaTeX work offline once their tools are downloaded. Model steps need the engine you chose; a local engine can be fully offline.
Where does my work live? In the project folder you chose, with record/ tracked in git. Keys live in the OS secure storage.
Is the paper written by AI? The drafter can propose a section, but every sentence must trace to your brief, data or vault, and you approve each section. See Traces.
Can I use a ChatGPT plan I already pay for? Yes, through Connect ChatGPT via the Codex CLI. See Codex.
Does it work on Windows or Linux? Preview only; not yet tested. See Platform support.
Are my reviews uploaded anywhere? No. Reviews are kept out of git by default, never deposited, and never sent to a CLI agent's workspace.
Can I run it on a modest laptop? The installer is small because Python and LaTeX download on demand. Local table detection and local speech are the heaviest parts; both are optional.
For technical users
There is no minimum specification published, so none is claimed. The heaviest measured work is Vault Vision detection (12–54 s per paper) and local speech-to-text. A future version may add a log file and diagnostics export; neither exists in 0.1.0.
